Whitewater Rafting in Costa Rica
Three rivers, three difficulty levels: the Savegre, Naranjo and El Chorro. Certified guides and a safety kayaker on every trip.
Tucanes Tours runs three different whitewater rafting rivers from the Central Pacific, each with a different character. The Savegre is the gentler introduction, Class II-III and a good fit for first-time rafters and families. The Naranjo steps up to Class III-IV for a faster, more technical day. El Chorro is the hardest of the three, a Class IV run through a narrow gorge for rafters who already have some experience. All three trips include a certified bilingual guide, a safety kayaker, and hotel pickup from Manuel Antonio, Quepos, or Jacó.
Each river runs on its own schedule tied to rainfall and water levels, so availability shifts through the year. Pick a river below to see current pricing, pickup times, and to book directly. Rafting is also one of the few Tucanes tours where a group can genuinely choose their difficulty level for the day, rather than one river being the only option.

Frequently asked questions
The Savegre is the gentlest of the three, Class II-III whitewater that is a good fit for first-timers, teenagers, and mixed-ability groups. The Naranjo and El Chorro carry stronger rapids and suit rafters with some prior experience.
Both are technical Class III-IV to Class IV runs, but El Chorro moves through a narrower gorge with more sustained rapids and is generally considered the harder of the two. The Naranjo has more open water between rapids.
Rafting depends on river levels, which follow Costa Rica's rainy and dry seasons. Some sections run only part of the year; check the individual tour page for current season notes before booking.
Every rafting trip includes a certified bilingual guide, a safety kayaker, all rafting gear, hotel pickup and return, and a meal. Book now, pay later, no deposit required.
