Manuel Antonio, Quepos, Costa Rica, Best Tournament Fishing around
The Pacific Ocean a.k.a. Central Pacific Zone of Costa Rica has been a favorite fishing destination for decades.
Sport fishermen and anglers enjoy the exuberance of marine life, observing sea turtles, dolphins and rays frolicking next to the boats, on their way to fish for Marlin, Sailfish, Snapper, Roosterfish, Dorado, Yellow fish Tuna, Wahoo and more.
The Marina Pez Vela in Quepos now provides the ideal launching off point in the Central Pacific to take off on these half-day or full-day excursions, and it has also become the host of important sport fishing tournaments. Its waterfront facilities include restaurants, shops, travel agencies, and medical services. Come experience it for yourself!
Sport fishing Tournaments in Quepos by Marina Pez Vela
The Pelagic Rock Star Offshore Tournament is usually the first tournament of the year. The event combines fishing, music and parties for a fun event in which 45 teams compete for over $300,000 in prizes. They don’t follow international angling guidelines, and these “jungle rules” mean the person who catches the fish can hand their rod to someone else to fight the fish! The Marina Pez Vela now features a Pelagic Gear Shop where you can purchase their iconic clothing and equipment.
The Quepos Billfish Cup 2021 takes place in March and has $100,000 in prizes on the line for participants. The three-day event is part of a series of tournaments in Central America, and it adheres to the international angling rules. This means the angler who catches the fish needs to fight it as well.
April is The Marina Pez Vela Open 2021, which also follows angling rules and is expected to have large cash prizes for its international participants.
The Offshore World Championship, which is by invitation only, hosts teams from around the world in Quepos, considered the billfish capital of the world by many. This one takes place in April as well. Definitely an exciting multicultural event where people converge for friendly competition and sharing different techniques and styles.
